Lawrence Halprin é, em paralelo com Roberto Burle Marx o meu Arquitecto Paisagista predilecto, o primeiro pela forma genial do seu conhecimento de vegetaçao ,(mas não só) o segundo pelo uso magistral das estruturas no espaço publico, que verdadeiramente marcam o lugar .....

dedico assim este post à memória do grande mestre do Paisagismo mundial Lawrence Halprin.....

Fiz um post, curiosamente semanas antes do falecimento de Halprin (http://nucleoap.blogspot.com/2009/10/vislumbres-de-halprin.html ) nesse post, aproveitei para mostrar algumas das obras mais significativas. Neste post remeto para o aspecto teorico, isto é alguns textos onde Halprin nos indica a sua visão da Arquitectura Paisagista, bem como registo video, com declaraçoes pertinentes. Mas sobretudo, insisto na parte gráfica.... mostrar os porjectos de halprin através do DESENHO, disciplina essencial e fundamental do exercicio da Arquitectura Paisagista, porque esta profissão é : ARQUITECTURA paisagista, bem como arquitectura PAISAGISTA, quero com isto dizer que os profissionais e sobretudo os estudantes devem entender que nao podem remeter a sua actividade apenas para uma das vertentes ( ou da vegetação ou puramente estrutural ) a vida não é so preto nem só branco .... Halprin é um exemplo significativo do dominio do desenho, e do conhecimento botânico, bem como Burle Marx, e só assim o génio ou simplesmente o bom profissional desta nossa actividade pode sobreviver.....

Submission deadline: 31 March 2010

The competition invites submissions from teams of students in Landscape Architecture programs or other allied disciplines.The objective of this competition is to encourage and recognize superior student environmental design work that addresses and attempts to find solutions for the various issues and challenges that face future generations and the landscape architecture discipline in making the world a better place to live in.

Following the theme of IFLA 47th World Congress to be held in Suzhou, China in May 2010, Harmony and Prosperity: Traditional Inheritance and Sustainable Development, participants can submit entries related to the following sub-themes:

1. Protection of Natural and Cultural Resources

Strategy, methodology, policies, laws and regulations dealing with protection of natural and cultural resources.

2. Eco-system Rehabilitation/Restoration/Development

Developing and implementing plans to rehabilitate, restore or create functional ecology-based landscape systems, ranging from small scale projects within communities and villages, to larger scale projects, such as brown-fields, urban green spaces and urban-rural green space systems.

3. Landscape Planning and Design

Contemporary planning processes and designs for landscape projects such as parks, plazas, institutions, campuses, residences, garden expos, sports and recreational facilities and waterfronts, etc.

4. Landscape Architectural Education

Goals, guidelines, standards, courses, teaching methods and accreditation and links to licensing of practitioners.

5. Sustainable Landscape Construction and Technology

Recent research and applied technology in sustainable practices for such projects as wetland treatment, water-saving irrigation, high-tech waterscape and lighting, rainwater collection, storm water management, and energy conservation, for both landscapes and structures, especially within parks.

6. Landscape Stewardship and Management

Laws, regulations, standards and guidelines for landscape stewardship and management at local, national and international levels.

7. Landscape Planting

Planting design and materials selection, and standards and guidelines for plant materials installation, and landscape maintenance and management.

Entries must specifically address the preservation, restoration or rehabilitation of urban historic sites in the countries in which students live and/or study, and demonstrate a creative approach and thinking in their projects, so that the value and spirit of the place are cherished and preserved, while satisfying the needs of modern society, such as accessibility, sustainability, etc.

Prizes will be awarded considering the following criteria:

Effective investigation of the competition topic
Illustration of best methods for improving the standards and practices of landscape architecture
Evidence of reflection and concern for environmental, cultural, historical, and other contextual issues
Integration of both practical and aesthetic aspects of landscape architecture

International Photo Competion People's Landscapes

UNISCAPE the Network of Universities especially dedicated to the implementation of the European Landscape Convention. Aim of UNISCAPE is to support and reinforce interdisciplinary co-operation within and among European universities regarding landscape issues, especially in the areas of research and education. UNISCAPE thereby promotes the principles and the objectives of the Florence Convention
organises the International Photo Contest People's Landscapes, open to all students of the Member Universities of UNISCAPE from 18 to 35 years old.

The aim of the contest is to encourage students to observe landscapes through the eyes of people in order to express how each one of us sees and perceives our landscapes by capturing the soul and the transitory identity of places, in particular of the degraded and everyday landscapes.
The participation to the contest is open to all students of the Member Universities of Uniscape from 18 to 35 years old. Each student can participate with a maximum of three digital images in colour or in black and white. The images must express the approach of the European Landscape Convention to landscape as: “an area, as perceived by people, whose character is the result of the action and interaction of natural and/or human factors”. Therefore, they may concern natural, rural, urban and peri-urban areas, including inland water and marine areas, but also those landscapes that might be considered outstanding as well as everyday or degraded landscapes. The images must reflect the point of view of the observer with regard to the represented landscape and prove the importance and the influence of the place on the observer himself.
The overall winner of the People’s Landscapes International photographic contest will be the student with the best image, as determined by the Jury. The winner will be awarded with a 1000 euro prize and his/her images will be published on UNISCAPE’s website. During the award ceremony, an exhibition of the best photos selected by the jury will be organized. The selected images will become part of UNISCAPE’s photographic archive and will be used for the principal banner of the UNISCAPE website.
The deadline for submitting entries is the 1 of April 2010 by sending the images and the participation form to this e-mail: peopleslandscapes@uniscape.eu.

Pedido de devolução de Nefertiti vai ser oficializado, sendo que os responsáveis egípcios alegam que a obra-prima deixou o país de forma "não ética" e fraudulenta em 1912.

O Egipto vai pedir oficialmente o regresso do busto de Nefertiti, obra-prima da arte faraónica, actualmente exposto num museu alemão, anunciou ontem no Cairo Zahi Hawass, o director do Conselho Supremo das Antiguidades Egípcias.

Hawass vai "convocar uma reunião extraordinária para estudar as formalidades necessárias para o pedido oficial de devolução da estátua", segundo se lê num comunicado daquele organismo, emitido após reuniões tidas com Friederike Seyfried, a directora do Museu Egípcio e da Colecção de Papiros do Neues Museum de Berlim.

O busto de Nefertiti tem cer- ca de 3400 a nos e foi descoberto em 1912, no Sul do Egipto, pelo arqueólogo alemão Ludwig Borchardt. Os egípcios pedem a sua restituição desde a década de 30 do século pas-sado, sempre sem sucesso.

Zahi Hawass afirma que após a sua descoberta, a estátua foi habilmente ocultada para passar despercebida e enviada por barco para a Alemanha.

Segundo este responsável, Ludwig Borchardt escreveu deliberadamente que o busto era feito de gesso e representava uma princesa real, "quando sabia perfeitamente que era uma estátua em calcário da rainha Nefertiti".

Isto prova, ainda de acordo com Hawass, que o arqueólogo alemão fez esta descrição para que a Alemanha pudesse conservar a estátua". Assim, "confirmam-se as nossas informações segundo as quais a estátua deixou o Egipto de forma não ética e que houve uma fraude e uma dissimulação por parte da Alemanha nessa altura".

Por seu lado, Berlim sustenta que a aquisição do busto de Nefertiti foi feita de forma legal em 1913, e insiste no perigo posto por qualquer deslocação a uma escultura tão "frágil".

Friederike Seyfried não está convencida e apresentou, nomeadamente, o documento que prova a saída legal da estátua do Egipto, confirmada pelas autoridades alemãs.

O busto de Nefertiti está em exposição desde o passado dia 17 de Outubro no Neues Museum de Berlim, situado na célebre "Ilha dos Museus" da capital alemã, onde foi mostrado pela primeira vez ao grande público em 1927, antes de ter sido transferido para o Museu Egípcio.

Além desta peça, o Egipto exige também ao Ocidente a devolução de obras como a Pedra da Roseta, exposta há 200 anos no Museu Britânico de Londres.

Battle Begins

In the 1970s the world seemed to be falling apart. From acid rain to overpopulation, ecological concerns were at the fore. And it was at this time that climate change first became a hot political issue. But it wasn't global warming that frightened scientists, it was the complete opposite; a new ice age.
Dr Iain Stewart traces the history of climate change from its very beginning and examines just how the scientific community managed to get it so very wrong back in the Seventies. Along the way he uncovers some of the great unsung heroes of climate change science, and introduces us to a secret organisation of American government scientists, known as Jason, who wrote the first official report on global warming as far back as 1979.

Fightback

Dr Iain Stewart investigates the counter-attack that was launched by the global warming sceptics in the 1990s.
At the start of the '90s it seemed the world was united. At the Rio Earth summit the world signed up to a programme of action to start tackling climate change. Even George Bush was there. But the consensus didn't last.
Iain examines the scientific arguments that developed as the global warming sceptics took on the climate change consensus. The sceptics attacked almost everything that scientists held to be true. They argued that the planet wasn't warming up, that even if it was it was nothing unusual, and certainly whatever was happening to the climate was nothing to do with human emissions of greenhouse gases.
Iain interviews some of the key global warming sceptics, and discovers how their positions have changed over time.

Já há uns tempos que tinha visto esta campanha.
Achei interessante o tipo de abordagem ao tema e, sobretudo, o cuidado com todo o aspecto gráfico do video.

IFLA Statement on Climate Change

"The International Federation of Landscape Architects encourages the development and adoption of a Global Landscape Convention to assist nations working to address the impact of climate change on the world’s landscapes and people. They offer this idea for consideration at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, on 7-18 December 2009.
‘The leaders will be talking about the landscapes of the world, as we know them, and the future of people and species that live in them, Dr Diane Menzies, the President said. ‘The expected participation by some 100 of the world’s political leaders as well as from numerous other groups reflects extreme international concern, Dr Menzies said.
‘One single change such as sea level rise, will have an immense impact on coastal cities and populations around the globe. Landscapes as we know them are endangered. In preparing an agreed approach landscape architects hope that effects on landscapes and those who live there will be reduced and processes for co-operation to mitigate impacts will be developed.’

‘Countries such as Netherlands have been developing policies to manage landscapes threatened with inundation, but small Pacific Island nations lack the resources to adequately cope with expected impacts. They may lose their homes and islands. There are thousands of kilometres of coastline in my country, New Zealand which will irrevocably change, taking with it the history, ecology, and relations people have built with these loved coastlines. This is just one small example of the immensity of change we must address,’ said Dr Menzies.

Landscapes change All landscapes change over time. Climate change though is the greatest threat to the Earth’s landscapes. These threats include destruction of landscapes such as Pacific Islands through inundation caused by sea level rise. They include large-scale damage caused by floods and other weather related events and changes. They include impacts on ecosystems and species, and impacts on special heritage and everyday landscapes. Climate change will separate people from cherished places as they now know them. Perversely the global thrust to minimise carbon discharge by moving to renewable energy resources including wind turbines, to reduce the effects of increased greenhouse gas emissions, is also having major visual and other impacts on landscapes around the globe. Thus the worlds landscapes (and people) are affected by the impact of climate change as well as current methods to develop renewable energy resources.

Sustainable land use practices
For more than a century since the profession of landscape architecture formed, we have supported the principle of stewardship of land. Landscape architects advocate the wise planning, artful design and careful maintenance of all landscapes through developing sustainable land use policies, ecologically conscious practices and working with communities to enable their loved places to be protected, or integrated into neighbourhoods and cities.

Global Landscape Convention
Based on the success of the European Landscape Convention in forewarning and assisting land managers and decision makers to tackle climate change impacts on landscapes throughout Europe, the International Federation of Landscape Architects is promoting a Global Landscape Convention. This will assist people to address the immense changes that will come about from climate change. We seek your support to promote the value of this idea as a means to address climate change impacts on the landscapes of the globe.

Climate adaptation tools
A project to investigate, assess and promote suitable Climate Adaptation Tools for Sustainable Settlements (CATSS) is currently underway, the task being undertaken by our member the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects. This will provide practical support for those dealing with change and will be available next year. Other initiatives underway will address the Right to Landscape and sustainable infrastructure, all intended to continue to find better ways to manage and minimise environmental risk through sustainable design, innovative storm water management and recognition of community values. IFLA is dedicated to using all traditional and non- traditional tools available to positively influence environmental outcomes including but not limited to climate change. These ideas may include design guidelines through to education and economic tools. IFLA supports the material profiling and economic market place tools being currently developed.

Sustainable by Design
The International Federation supports the International Union of Architects on their ‘Sustainable by Design’ initiative and commend this to decision-makers and practitioners.

Our members work for a sustainable world and sustainable landscapes using wise practice, methods and tools. We look to the wisdom of decision-makers in Copenhagen to minimise climate change and so reduce impacts on threatened landscapes of the world."

Inauguração da EXPOSIÇÃO DE FOTOGRAFIA

“Vale do Tua- património a proteger”

Dia 9 de Dezembro, 4ª feira, 21h

Local: Casa da Horta, Associação Cultural (Porto, Rua de São Francisco, 12A, perto da Igreja de São Francisco e Mercado Ferreira Borges)

No passado dia 4 de Outubro de 2009, a Campo Aberto organizou uma visita ao Vale do Tua. As fotografias que fazem parte desta exposição foram tiradas pelos participantes durante a caminhada pela linha do Tua, desde a Foz a São Lourenço (~16Km).

O património associado ao Vale do Tua- a sua magnífica paisagem e a linha férrea que o percorre- encontra-se ameaçado pela construção de uma barragem em Foz-Tua. Com esta exposição pretendemos divulgar e dar a conhecer este património único e o dano irreparável que a construção da barragem poderá trazer caso o seu projecto seja concretizado.

A+T : THE PUBLIC CHANCE

THE PUBLIC CHANCE is a visual analysis of 30 urban landscapes of opportunity. The projects selected are grouped according to scene of origin:
- Industrial areas
- Peripheral voids
- Infrastructures
- Waterfronts.

Each project is located:
- within surroundings of 60 km2 at a scale of 1:20,000
- within surroundings of 3.5 km2 at a scale of 1:10,000.

Each intervention undergoes a layer analysis:
- water
- vegetation
- buildings
- routes
- rooms
- activities

The 20 most used strategies arise from the comparison of all the projects.

THE PUBLIC CHANCE is the first book published by a+t ediciones in the In common series, which came about in 2005 in the pages of a+t magazine to express our concern for the good use and design of common spaces and was developed over two years, in four issues.
THE PUBLIC CHANCE offers a renewed vision of some of those projects and a third of new interventions, all of them under thematic analysis, characteristic of a+t’s publications

O livro que deu o mote para esta conversa!:

'Duas Linhas' é um projecto desenvolvido pelos arquitectos Pedro Campos Costa e Nuno Louro, agora apresentado em Livro e exposição.

Partindo do conceito que "70% da população habita o território Português ao longo da costa Ocidental, apenas 30% da população vive no interior do país, ao longo da fronteira com Espanha, duas zonas habitadas de diferentes maneiras, com tempos diferentes, ritmos, arquitecturas, paisagens, culturas, velocidades e densidades diferentes", este projecto pretende mostrar esta realidade paralela, os seus desequilíbrios, as suas imagens míticas e fantasias, os seus desejos. Desafios, dilemas e oportunidades.

O livro conta com textos de Mário Alves , Álvaro Domingues, João Nunes, Samuel Rego e João Seixas, fotografias de Daniel Malhão e Nuno Cera, e design gráfico dos R2 Design.

viva!

por motivos pessoais e de carga de trabalho tenho estado ausente dos posts aqui no blog

tenho contudo planeado ao longo dos dias uma série de temas a colocar aqui no blog , espero assim ter algum tempo para o fazer , mas o acumular de temas, só por si é assustador. O problema associado a este atraso são alguns temas serem já datados ....

mas a ideia desta série surgiu com a visita de uma amiga que estuda Arquitectura Paisagista em Leeds que me deixou alguma informação

esta série terá o titulo de : Pefil Academico

Associado a esta informaçao pretendo fazer um post com um directorio de ateliers/gabinetes de Arquitectura Paisagista no Reino Unido , informação que é sempre muito útil para os nossos visitantes e pelo feedback que temos tido é uma das informaçoes mais pertinentes que este blog oferce ... continua assim o objectico de fazer uma grande base de dados de ateliers/gabinetes de AP

Um post que fecha assim as festividades do centenario do Burle Marx é a partilha com os nosso visitantes do catalogo da exposiçao sobre este mestre do Paisagismo mundial que se realizou no Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo e que agora viaja para a Alemanha , catalogo trazido do Brasil por uma grande amiga minha.

Um post pensado já muito tempo é a divulgaçao do projecto de Peter Walker para o ground zero do 11 de Setembro em Nova Iorque .

e numa trilogia nova iorquina como consequincia de um trabalho que relizamos para a disciplina de Ordenamento do Territorio sobre resíduos mostrar o projecto da Field Operations de James Corner do parque freshkills na conversão em parque daquela que foi a maior lixeira do mundo , concluindo nova iorque mostra o projecto manhata uma visao desta ilha nova iorquina nas sucessivas transformações desde que aí o homem europeu se instalou.

Numa relação com a disciplina de Tecnicas e gestao de espaços verdes dois posts sobre Golfe : a visita que fizemos com o professor desta disciplina assim como a referencia a alguns projectistas referencia de campos de golfe.

Continuando a associação com as disciplinas deste semestre uma indicação sobre os PROT.

pretendo aínda mostrar o meu refugio nestas ferias que como ja disse algum tempo atras nao tiveram nada de férias mas assim mesmo foi um refugio rural com alguns momentos intensos que demonstram os acontecimentos chave do Verão em Portugal isto é : os incendios.

partilhar tambem alguns videos do youtube que fui encontrando nas minhas navegaçoes tais como um documentario sobre Gonçalo Ribeiro Teles , um video aconselhado pelo dixente de Urbanistica sobre Atenas e aínda a "aula" de Attenborough no Royal Institute que so consegui atraves do youtube.

muitos outros temas estao pensados mas nao deixo de fazer um preview para um tema musical , que é sobre o panorama dos interpretes de musica classica contrariando o velho preconceito que estes interpretes sao pouco atraente por isso para aqueles que admira a beleza feminina , um motivo para aderirem a esta grande musica nao so pela beleza intrinseca desta mas pelo agentes que a transmitem!!!.

Julian Beever, é um artista Britânico, pinta calçadas e ruas de todo o mundo e expressa a sua arte na criação de ilusões de optica 3D, quando a imagem é vista de um determinado ângulo. A Baixa do Porto foi também em Agosto deste ano presenteada pelo artista.
