At the 11th Meeting of the Council of Europe for the implementation of the European Landscape Convention, will be held on 4/5 June 2012 in Carbonia (CI) the Forum for the Selection of the National Landscape Award of the Council of Europe 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 editions organized by the Council of Europe and from the General Direction PaBAAC/ Architecture and contemporary arts Service of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture Activities with the city of Carbonia, the Province of Carbonia-Iglesias and Sardinia.
The award, with biennial cadence, is open to public administrations, NGOs, associations and individuals that have developed actions in the national territory, policies or have realized projects in accordance with the Convention’s principles.
Because of the event’s special significance and the involvement of many international representations, the Ministry organizes a national atelier, “Laboratorio Italia”, that will allow the comparison between local and regional associations that have participated in the Italian selection of the Landscape Award who can share the common experience of dealing with public entities, associations and experts that work on territorial transformations and people’s living environment, also in view of the procedure for the third edition of the award which would be activated by the Direction during 2012.
Through exhibitions, workshops, conferences and publications that will allow to compare for the first time the Italian projects and foreign participants in the first two editions of the award, it’s intended to start a discussion opened to government representatives of local communities who work daily in the territory and national and international institutions involved in the landscape protection and its enhancement.
The objective is sharing professional experiences, application methods, administrative virtuous paths and developing an initial balance of the award’s organization and selection procedure based on some criteria (sustainability, exemplary value, participation, awareness-raising) dictated by the Council of Europe that has allowed the Ministry of Heritage and Culture Activities to individuate the city of Carbonia as an Italian candidate, winner of the second edition of the European award with a redevelopment complex project of the newly founded city and its mine site, where the international event takes place.
